Timing is Everything

Well here I am again when only a few days ago I said I wanted to paint and not blog frequently but I just needed to write this post and include my inspired painting.
Timing in watercolour is everything as my fellow watercolourists know only too well but this week I painted one of the Asian Elephants from the Chester Zoo in England with reference material courtesy of Caroline Williams an English photographer. See her lovely work on her facebook page

Timing of another kind was to do this painting this week as a new baby elephant has been born to one of the elephants in the zoo just a day after I finished. Of course I did not know this at the time I was painting or even if the images I referred from were even the mother in calf but even so
 "how beautiful"

  1. How beautiful, indeed! I absolutely love your animal series, Lorraine. You should forward these images to your local zoo.

  2. These ephalumps are adorable, and your painting is fab-u-lous! We went over 12 months ago and there was a new one then too. I could have watched it all day (apart from the smell!)

  3. Thanks Polly glad you like my elephant, the coincidence of the event certainly adds a memorable story behind my painting that I will always remember

  4. We went to see the new baby elephant on Saturday as we only live about 12 miles from Chester Zoo - such a gorgeous little cutie! There was one born in November too which Gary photographed and I did a painting of, so must paint this new one too!!! I love your painting, one of your best!

  6. Thanks Renate, I saw a photo on FB the other day showing a shot from Africa back in the 1960's where there were hundreds of elephants travelling across a plane, sad that this is not the case now
