Autumn Arrives

Well today for the first time the arrival of Autumn has been confirmed. It has been a little cold, we have had a little bit of rain and our Glory Vine with its abundance of foliage has turned lovely shades of golds and reds. My painting called Autumn Textures was inspired by several influences - our beautiful glory vine which is in full view from my studio window, drawing on ideas from a new book I received last week called Spirit of Spontaneity by Karlyn Holman and lastly the urge to incorporate some of the new paints that also arrived last week. Both the book and the paints (Maimer Blu) were on a special price offer that I could not resist and I eagerly awaited their arrival from the USA.

  1. I absolutely love this painting. The paint in the white spaces is almost more exciting than the main portion of the painting. Is this something you picked up from the book?

Thanks for sharing this Lorraine. It just made a whole bunch of painting ideas jump into my head. Isn't this just the wonder of being able to share online - it's great to be inspired by other artists.

  2. Thanks Vandy I'm glad you like it. The concept of the three white corners came from the book, it is just a design element that could be used with endless subjects and for me it was capturing my glory vine in its autumn splendour

  12. Lorraine - I think your Autumn Texture is outstanding. Karlyn Hohlman has certainly given you great inspiration. It is so strange your autumn is arriving and our spring just got here. Will it get colder now or will it stay warm?
I love this piece it is so eye catching - thank you for sharing.

    1. Hi Debbie, yes it will definitely start getting colder now but we only go down to about 12 degrees celsius in the day at the lowest. Glad you like this painting, I need some painting hours soon to try and repeat the techniques before I forget them!
