Correct Tension

Back in 2013 I painted a whole series of "Pure Aussie Wool" works where I combined watercolour with collage from vintage knitting patterns. Several of these were sold both here in Australia and the USA.  Last weekend I had the urge to create another but with dark faces. The process of creating a work starts from how many sheep I want in my painting. I decide on a colour palette and then look through my vintage knitting patterns for some suitable bits and pieces. Sometimes a word jumps out while I am flipping through the patterns and with this in mind I get to play. I push and pull with shapes and colour until I get something that pleases me and I feel is a finished piece. I find this a very rewarding way of creating and many hours get lost in the process. This work was done over several days interrupted by my Tuesday class schedule, a couple of lunches out, shopping etc. but this meant I could enjoy each step and consider where to go to next as the finish work is never in my mind when I start. I am looking forward to having this framed and hung in my studio soon.
